Calla Kessler’s photography captures candid moments of American life. From street portraits to scenes of daily life, Kessler’s photography testifies to the nature of the camera’s role as an indispensable device for capturing precious moments in time.

“I find myself photographing my childhood home whenever I return to the American Midwest. I find it deeply nostalgic and comforting. It is a reminder to me art can be created in the most familiar settings – no need to always go far and wide to find beauty. The family dog has always served an important role in my life – a true companion. As a friend, I couldn’t deprive her of the food scraps she detected in the garbage can. I find this moment evokes a sense of home, warmth and humor. An ordinary scene that can be transformed into a painterly photograph with the right set of eyes.”
